Promises are funny things. Apparently, one word is a binding contract that you either keep or you don’t, one word that balances your entire reputation as a truthful person on the tip of a needle. Promise. It’s so goddamn funny how a promise can be destroyed, shattered, thrown into oblivion by that one other word.
Maybe it was unintentional. Just the game, tearing everything he ever knew from him as he cascaded through his portal, back to his world. Maybe he felt it, felt everything leave him, but didn’t mean it, didn’t want it to happen, didn’t want to forget. Maybe that’s what happened, or perhaps that’s just what you tell yourself to keep sane as you sit in front of your computer screen all night every night, watching his new life unfold.
